How Often Should a Business Clean Its Carpet?
2 min read

Commercial carpet takes far more foot traffic than carpet at home, and it's often the first thing customers, clients and employees notice. Here's a practical schedule — and how to keep cleaning from getting in the way of business.
A practical schedule
- Entrances, lobbies and reception: these take the most dirt. Consider professional cleaning every 1–3 months, depending on traffic and season.
- Hallways and break rooms: every 3–6 months.
- Private offices and conference rooms: every 6–12 months.
- Daycares and medical-adjacent spaces: more often, plus prompt spot cleaning.
- Rental units: at every turnover.
Daily maintenance that makes a difference
- Vacuum high-traffic areas daily.
- Use commercial entrance mats, and keep them clean — a dirty mat spreads dirt.
- Deal with spills right away; keep a simple spot kit in the break room.
Why regular cleaning saves money
Grit wears down carpet fibers. Cleaning on a schedule removes it before it causes permanent wear, extending carpet life and delaying an expensive replacement. Clean carpet also improves the look of the space — and in winter, removes the road salt tracked in from Connecticut parking lots.
Cleaning without disrupting work
Schedule cleaning for evenings or before opening so carpets have time to dry. One local business had us clean "our 3500 SF office in one evening," working "around our business hours" — then brought us back for their building's lobby.
What to ask a commercial carpet cleaner
- Can you work after hours? Evening or early-morning cleaning means no disruption and dry carpet by opening.
- What equipment do you use? Truck-mounted extraction removes more soil and moisture than portable machines, which matters on large areas.
- How long will it take to dry? Plan traffic around it, and ask about air movers for busy areas.
- Is the price confirmed up front? Commercial jobs vary by size and soil, so get the quote before work starts.
- Can you handle spots between visits? A quick call for a coffee spill in the lobby beats living with it until the next scheduled cleaning.
Don't forget tile and upholstery
Restroom and kitchen tile, grout, and upholstered seating in waiting areas benefit from the same schedule. Doing everything in one visit keeps disruption to a minimum.
